On Friday night, the Bundesliga kicked off with the Champions Wolfsburg taking on Stuttgart at the Volkswagon arena

The question had been asked whether the "Wolves" could repeat last seasons heroics and again lift the Bundesliga title, and they could have asked for a better start, goals from Misimovic and Grafite were enough to see off a Hleb led Stuttgart side.

Misimovic's goal was a thing of beauty, Genter played the ball square, Misimovic turned his body and curled the ball expertly into the left corner, Grafite finished the game off in the 82nd minute, a powerful run from the right and was calm and cool and placed the ball low past Lehmann.

I didn't watch many Bundesliga games at all last season so I had missed Wolfsburgs great football that won them the title, so I was excited to see this match, Dzeko the striker alot of teams have been linked with this summer had a quiet game, but you could see he has quality, it was Misimovic that impressed the most, great on the ball, always looking for options, took the goal really well and done his best to bring Dzeko and Grafite into the match.

Schafer the left back also impressed sometimes looking like a wing back, good left foot, decent defender aswell.

Stuttgart disappointed me, expected more from them, Hleb lasted an hour which is understandable as his preseason training was due for a late August start with Barcelona, Pogrebnyak the summer signing from Zenit, looked decent, linked up well with Cacau a few times, I think he will be a good replacement for Mario Gomez, and Stuttgart should finish top 5.

Good performance from Wolfsburg, good start against a big team, the team is settled not alot of changes to the 1st team but some added depth to the squad.

Match Rating 7/10
M.O.M - Zvjezdan Misimovic (Wolfsburg)

  1. Good post. I must say I only watched the first half and Stuttgart looked dangerous. Pogrebnyak looked strong and with Cacau's pace, Stuttgart did cause the Wolfsburg defence problems, and they almost scored but Khedira's header hit the post. Wolfsburg though yet again played great football and I thought Dzeko had a good first half. I'm hoping the new season will be as great as the last one.
